I get interesting feelings from the elements of this piece. Let's start from the bottom - We can see a dark and opaque surface. It's mysterious, uncertain, and black roots enveloped in a painfully red aura seem to indicate suppressed emotions, a past that is difficult to talk about; and these roots seem to anchor a character down like heavy weight. If we follow the roots, we meet the character - Enveloped in darkness - through which the roots can come out of the ground and travel through the piano - seemingly the character's only source of solace in an inner world of suffering. It's like a lightsource in the darkness and if you look at the way the roots climb through the instrument, you feel as though music is the tool the character can channel her emotions and express them. To take the bad and make something good out of it. And at the top of the painting, you see the light and the vastness that emanate from the piano. Expression, Hope, Freedom.
